Kaffarah for Breaking Fast in Ramadan
Kaffārah applies to fasts intentionally broken without a valid excuse. The ruling requires feeding 60 needy individuals for each fast broken, at a cost of $15 per person
According to Islamic rulings, Kaffārah for one intentionally broken fast must be fulfilled by one of the following (in order):
- Freeing a slave (not applicable today)
- Fasting 60 consecutive days for each broken fast
- Feeding 60 needy individuals
Today, Kaffārah is commonly fulfilled by feeding 60 people per broken fast.

Kaffarah Yameen=Kaffarah for Oath
Allah will not call you to account for what is unintentional, but He will call you to account for what you deliberately do. Those who break their oaths shold feed ten needy persons, cloth them, or free a slave; but if unable, they should fast for three days. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” — [Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:89]
Kaffarah Yameen is the Islamic expiation for breaking a oath or vow/promise made before Allah. If a Muslim intentionally breaks an oath, they are required to perform Kaffarah Yameen as a way to seek forgiveness and fulfill their religious responsibility.
How to Fulfill Kaffarah Yameen
The simplest and most recommended way is to feed 10 needy people. Each meal should meet the standard portion to ensure it benefits those in need.

Wondering if you should pay Fidya instead?
If you are unable to fast due to illness, old age, or valid reasons, Fidya may be the right option for you
