The Many Forms of Sadaqah

Written by Suha Syed

The month of Ramadan is upon us once again! As every blessed day passes us, it’s important to be as proactive and productive as possible to benefit from this special time. One of the easiest ways we can do this is engaging in acts of Sadaqah, or any act of charity done for the sake of Allah. Anything from giving charity to smiling at your fellow Muslim brother or sister can count as Sadaqah! Read on to maximize your good deeds this Ramadan.

[1] Smiling

Smiling is perhaps the easiest form of Sadaqah one can do.

“Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity, commanding good and forbidding evil is charity, your giving directions to a man lost in the land is charity for you. Your seeing for a man with bad sight is a charity for you, your removal of a rock, a thorn or a bone from the road is charity for you. Your pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is charity for you.” (Hadith – Tirmidhi)

Spread some happiness during bleak times with a simple smile!

[2] Charity

Zakaat, or charity, is a cornerstone of Islam. We at ICNA Relief follow strict guidelines to ensure your zakat is given properly. You can learn more about zakat here.

[3] Increasing one’s Islamic knowledge

Ramadan is a perfect time to educate oneself more on Islam. Everything from Quranic ayahs, Arabic grammar, Sunnah and Hadith and listening to different lectures will change our Iman for the better, inshallah.

[4] Spreading Awareness

During this unprecedented time, it’s important to raise awareness about how to stay safe and healthy. Remember to wash your hands and stay inside!

[5] Making Dua

Dua is the easiest way Muslims can connect with their Creator. It can be done anytime, anywhere, and in any language. May Allah accept all of our prayers and give us the best of this world and the hereafter.

Taking into account the current time we are in, it is of utmost importance to take care of our personal health and hygiene while remembering those in less fortunate situations. Sadaqah can be done anytime of the year but is rewarded even more so generously during the Blessed month of Ramadan.
