The Blessings of Supporting Orphans:
A Path to Paradise
“The one who cares for an orphan and I will be in Paradise like this.” – Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Bukhari)
In this brief yet powerful hadith, the Prophet ﷺ holds two fingers together to show how close one will be to him in Paradise if they care for an orphan. Few deeds are mentioned with such direct reward meaning that looking after a child in need is not only a responsibility, it’s a clear path to divine mercy and nearness to the Prophet ﷺ.
Care We Can’t Forget
In our communities today, there are Muslim children in the foster care system who have been separated from their families, often placed in environments without things we can take for granted in Islamic households such as halal food, and reminders to pray.
These children are not just statistics, they are children who deserve to grow up in homes that nurture their faith and understand their culture, meeting their emotional and spiritual needs.
What the Sunnah Teaches Us
The Prophet ﷺ, who himself was born an orphan, consistently emphasized the care of orphans throughout his life. Supporting a child in need is a form of worship rooted in love, mercy, and duty. Whether through financial support, community advocacy, or directly fostering a child, every act is significant.
Supporting orphaned and vulnerable children isn’t limited to adoption or guardianship. It includes any effort made to restore safety, dignity, and through ICNA Relief, sustain a connection with their faith.

How ICNA Relief Helps
Through the FATE program, ICNA Relief works to ensure that Muslim children in foster care are supported by trained, culturally aware Muslim families. The program also raises awareness about the need for more Muslim foster parents, offers community education, and supports families who step forward to help.
This is a practical, accessible way for the community to revive the Sunnah of Kafalah, the Islamic tradition of caring for children without legal adoption, while safeguarding their identity and faith.

A Chance to Be Close to the Prophet ﷺ
When we care for children who have lost stability, we follow the example of the Prophet ﷺ in both word and deed. And when we build systems that reflect this mercy, we create communities that carry his legacy forward.
May Allah guide us to uphold the care of children in need and grant us a place near His Messenger in the hereafter.
