William Rayburn, MD, MBA is an emeritus distinguished professor, chair of obstetrics and gynecology, and associate dean at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Currently, he is an affiliate professor and distinguished teacher at the Medical University of South Carolina. As a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, he continues to care for patients with complicated pregnancies. Dr. Rayburn is the recipient of several teaching awards and has been continuously funded for his research. His more than 700 peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts presented at national scientific meetings deal with high-risk pregnancy topics, physician workforce issues, and evaluative education trials. The most recent of his 25 professional reference books is The Obstetrics and Gynecology Workforce: Challenges and Strategies (2025). Dr. Rayburn’s national leadership positions included being President, University Chairs of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Chairman of the Board, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME); President, Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME); and Senior Consultant of Continuing Medical Education for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
