Foster Closet
A Warm Welcome for Every Child
Because no child should enter a new home empty-handed. The FATE Foster Closet provides essentials that bring comfort, dignity, and hope to children in foster care — from their first night and beyond.
When Every Minute Counts, Dignity Matters Most
Children often enter foster care suddenly — leaving their homes with only the clothing on their backs and their belongings stuffed into garbage bags. Foster families sometimes have just hours to prepare for a new placement, scrambling to find clothes, shoes, or a toothbrush before a child arrives.
These first few days are filled with turmoil, uncertainty, and emotion as children adjust to unfamiliar surroundings and families do their best to make them feel safe.
The FATE Foster Closet helps ease that transition. By providing essentials like clothing, shoes, hygiene kits, and comfort items, it ensures every child is met with care, dignity, and warmth—reminding them they are not forgotten.
For foster families caring for multiple children, these closets also offer long-term support to help meet ongoing needs throughout the year.
More Than Clothing
A Community of Care
The FATE Foster Closet provides free, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive items for children entering foster care and the families receiving placements.
It serves as a trusted resource for:
Foster parents welcoming
new children
Child welfare caseworkers seeking emergency supplies
CASA volunteers supporting family transitions
From baby gear to school supplies, modest wear, and comfort items — every piece represents a community’s love and a child’s new beginning.
See the Impact Through a Volunteer’s Eyes
Meet one of our amazing volunteers who turned compassion into action by opening a Foster Closet in her own community. Her story shows how a simple idea — creating a small space to help children in crisis — can grow into a source of comfort, dignity, and hope.
“I just wanted every child to feel seen and cared for. That’s how our closet began.”
